Mr. Media is recorded live before a studio audience of science fiction TV fans who trace their dissatisfaction with the Syfy network’s lack of long-term support for its shows back at least as far as “Farscape,” “Eureka,” “Alphas,” and “Warehouse 13”… in the NEW new media capital of the world… St. Petersburg, Florida!

#RockTheRaza didn’t do it.

Neither did my favorite, #BoobsAndBlasters.

The truth is, after weeks of intense blink-drive driven campaigning by Raza-loving science fiction TV fans and the show’s devoted cast and showrunner, nothing – at this moment – seems likely to bring “Dark Matter,” the best sci-fi show on TV, back for a fourth season.

My wife and I first discovered the show, which initially viewed like a delightful amalgam of “Star Trek,” Star Wars and everything else we’d ever seen in space, in its first season. But while the tropes were familiar, the premise of six strangers waking up from amnesia about a starship was anything but retread.

JOSEPH MALLOZZI podcast excerpt: “It was not the plan that 1 would disappear from the show. But a strong ‘request’ was made to shake things up by killing him in a shocking manner. It was something that I did not necessarily agree with but I was not in a position to fight. The Derrick Moss story was left unresolved — it was something I wanted to go back to. In season three, I had a story in mind to wrap that up, but Marc Bendavid was unavailable… If we had done a fourth season I would have taken another run at the Jace Corso/Derrick Moss storyline.”

From the characters’ names – 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6, so-named based on the order in which they awakened – “Dark Matter” was fresh and exciting every week for three years.

The series starred Melissa O’Neil, Anthony Lemke, Alex Mallari Jr. and Jodelle Ferland with Roger Cross and Zoie Palmer as “Android.” It was executive produced by Jay Firestone, Mallozzi and Mullie.

Joining me today is Joe Mallozzi, co-creator with Paul Mullie of the graphic novel on which “Dark Matter” is based. He helped fans and the cast of the Raza, the home ship of the show, to mount a major effort to convince Netflix to produce a fourth season.
