When people wrote in their private journals as recently as a generation ago, we were all spared a lot of thoughts, opinions and arguments by people we didn’t know, didn’t want to know, and preferred not to know even existed.

But with the advent of the World Wide Web, in its quest to open our minds to every scrap of knowledge and thought that exists now or has ever existed in the past, blogging opened the doors to a ton o’ crap.

CHARLIE WHITE podcast excerpt: “In our blogs, Johnny and I are more than willing to tell people in 25 words or less if something sucks or is wonderful. And people are really drawn to graphics. That’s one of the secrets of great blogging. You have to have great graphics; people want to see what you’re talking about.”

So before we get to today’s interview with a pair of guys who can teach you all about blogging, a word of caution: please don’t waste the precious gift of words by gifting the world with another blog of nothing or, even worse, hyperbole. Choose the words in your blog carefully and sparingly and we’ll all be better for it.

That off my chest, my magic of blogging guests today, Charlie White and John Biggs, are successful, accomplished online journalists whose respective credentials include Mashable, TechCrunch, and Gizmodo. They just published the second edition of their web manual, Blogging Boot Camp: Learning How to Build, Write, and Run a Successful Blog.

It is packed with step-by-step instructions for creating a smart blog with the potential to make you better known in your chosen field, whether it’s silk flower arrangements, political discourse, or wristwatch news. And you might even squeeze out a few extra bucks on the side.

JOHN BIGGS podcast excerpt: “Newspapers now give reporters their own blogs off the major sites. They’re throwing as much against the wall as they can to see what sticks.”
