Today’s Guest: Joshua Gomez, actor, “Chuck”
Mr. Media is recorded live before a studio audience of Best Buy Geek Squaders who’d trade their employee discounts for 10 minutes of Morgan Grimes’ new life as the Intersect… in the NEW new media capitol of the world… St. Petersburg, Florida!
Find me a TV character who has a better run than Morgan Grimes on NBC’s “Chuck.”
Seriously.
When we met him five years ago, the role played by Joshua Gomez was that of typical sitcom sidekick. He got in a few zingers, helped along the exposition and occasionally carried a good ‘B’ story.
JOSH GOMEZ podcast excerpt: “I would sit down with Chris Fedak and just talk about the character. You find these moments. A writer would say, ‘I like what Josh is doing with this. Let’s try that.’ I’m not sure they exactly knew what to do with Morgan early on.”
Since then, he’s become a bit of a lady’s man, a secret agent like his pal Chuck, matched up well opposite Colonel John Casey, played by Adam Baldwin, and, at the end of season four, even found the CIA Intersect downloaded into his own brain, not Chuck’s.
Not bad.
Best of all, I’ll wager that the change in fortunes for fictional Morgan Grimes has had a similar, real life impact on the career of actor Joshua Gomez.
Gomez took a one-note best friend who only had the annual San Diego Comic-Con to look forward to in life and turned him into a lovable, respectable man of the world.
“Chuck” returns to NBC tonight, October 28, for its fifth and final season on a new night, Fridays, at 8 p.m. My family and I can’t wait.
