Chadwick Boseman was great in the live action Black Panther and Avengers films, making him one of the highest grossing action stars of all time.
But he is not the longest running actor to play the role of Wakanda’s king, T’Challa.
No, for the past eight years, it is James Mathis III who has been the voice of the Black Panther in animation, anime, interactive games and live shows including Marvel Universe Live and The Marvel Experience.
JAMES MATHIS III podcast excerpt: “You can cast a wider net as a voice actor because you’re not limited to your physical appearance.”
He was most recently heard this summer in the animated film LEGO Marvel Super Heroes-Black Panther: Trouble in Wakanda on Disney XD. And he returns this fall as the lead in the fifth season of Disney XD’s animated series, “Marvel’s Avengers Assemble: Black Panther’s Quest.”
You can meet James Mathis III in person this summer at any one of the following comic book conventions: Florida SuperCon, Raleigh SuperCon and Golden Triangle ComicCon.
As a voice artist, Mathis has also appeared on “Undercover Brother,” “The Golden Blaze,” “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” “Ben 10,” “WordGirl,” “Celebrity Deathmatch,” “Iron Man: Rise of Technovore,” and “Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.”
