Now let me tell you about my guest.
REGINALD ROUNDTREE podcast excerpt: “As a Miami cop, the most dangerous calls were always the domestics, where the cops go to a home where there is violence going on. Especially the shift I worked on — midnights. Or stopping cars at 5 in the morning, on dark, unlit city streets, walking up to strangers, it was very, very dangerous. You can do 5,000 quiet traffic stops, the 5,001st will be the bad guy with the gun waiting for you to walk up to the car to blow your brains out.”
At a time when some people believe local news shows may be a bit ubiquitous and the cast of characters interchangeable, Reginald Roundtree is a dean of Tampa Bay’s broadcast news scene, coming up on a remarkable 25 years on staff at WTSP.
But who is this man of great calm and legendary cool?
Would you believe… he’s an ex-cop?
It’s true!
Reggie, who is a native Floridian — born in Daytona Beach – grew up in Miami, where he eventually spent six years as a city police officer. He was even recognized there with an Officer of the Year Medal of Valor.
He eventually joined the news operation at WPEC-TV in West Palm Beach before landing in Tampa Bay almost a quarter century ago.
A few more quick bits of information about our Mr. Roundtree: he is frequently out and about in the bay area, posting Facebook selfies of himself playing a round of golf, at community fundraisers, or just patronizing local restaurants. And check his Twitter account and you’ll find him messaging other bay area media celebs such as… Bubba the Love Sponge?
