Today’s Guest: Jillette Johnson, singer/songwriter, performs “Cameron”
Singer Jillette Johnson talks original music, performs “Cameron”! INTERVIEW
While you’re listening to that big beautiful voice of singer Jillette Johnson’s, don’t forget to listen to the actual words coming out of her mouth.
You might be a little surprised.
In “Pauvre Coeur,” she’ll slip a “filthy whore” reference amongst the ethereal, breathless singing.
Sounds a bit like Adele with lyrics that are a little more suggestive.
JILLETTE JOHNSON podcast excerpt: “The message is that relationships are messy. And they are just as wonderful as they are painful. I wanted to capture a breathing organism in the ‘Pauvre Coeur’ video.”
And in “Cameron,” which Jillette will perform for us, she tells the tale of a bullied young man who makes his father mad because he “likes wearing lipstick.”
Jillette has a unique perspective and, I suspect, point of reference, making her songs sound like operatic ballads when they’re very simple stories about real-life people.
You can catch Jillette on the road in the month of January, promoting her debut EP, Whiskey & Frosting, and opening for American Idol star Kris Allen, in places such as Eddie’s Attic in Decatur, Georgia, and right here in the new new media capitol of the world, St. Petersburg, Florida, at the State Theatre on Jan. 22.
