Mr. Media is recorded live before a studio audience of cutthroat singers, dancers and actors who could crush the dreams of any of the “Glee” kids with just a look… in the NEW new media capitol of the world… St. Petersburg, Florida!
If it’s February, it’s finally time for NBC’s much awaited adult response to Fox’s high school musical series.
When “Smash” premieres tonight, it will bring to the small screen one of the most anticipated shows in years. The hype around this Steven Spielberg-produced show is tremendous, but the early reviews have been remarkably good.
BRIAN d’ARCY JAMES podcast excerpt: “It’s not a stretch to say we’re all of this (Broadway) world.”
That’s good for the cast, which includes former American Idol discovery Katharine McPhee and Hollywood royalty Anjelica Huston. It’s also promising for the last-place network, which could seriously stand a little stardust to land on its faded peacock feathers.
Joining me today is actor Brian d’Arcy James. On “Smash,” he plays Frank, husband of Julia, who is played by Debra Messing, late of “The Starter Wife” and “Will & Grace.”
Brian may not be a familiar face to TV viewers, but he has a lengthy list of film and Broadway credentials, including a 2009 Tony nomination for his starring run as Shrek in “Shrek the Musical.” He won the Outer Critics Circle and the Drama Desk Award for the same role.
