If there was a religious beat at ABC News, Elizabeth Vargas would probably be the reporter covering it.
This Friday night, April 2, 2010,the 20/20 anchor tells the story of four “Saints”—or sainthood candidates—from around the United States. It’s no coincidence the tale will be told on Good Friday, just days ahead of Easter, which celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
ELIZABETH VARGAS podcast excerpt: “Good Friday is also the fifth anniversary of Pope John Paul II’s death. And there is a rigorous investigation at the Vatican underway right now on whether or not they have found the first of the miracles to be attributed to him. There is a real push on sainthood for him.”
For Vargas, this is familiar territory; in 2003 she did a report for ABC News titled “Jesus, Mary and DaVinci”; two years later, she reported on “Resurrection: A Search for Answers.” She also is the anchor of a History Channel//ABC News documentary, “Last Days on Earth,” which presents seven possible apocalyptic, doomsday scenarios. You can order all of them on DVD at Amazon.com, by the way.
