Did you catch any episodes of the limited series “Downward Dog” this summer?

I know you hear this about a lot of great shows these days – “Better Call Saul,” “Veep,” “Silicon Valley,” “Master of None,” and so on – but this Dog really is special. It’s narrated by a voice like none other, in fact: it’s Martin – the show’s star – a devoted and neurotic rescue dog.

MICHAEL KILLEN podcast excerpt: “When you have a main character who doesn’t have thumbs, who really can’t move the plot along in any traditional manner — such as conversation — he only can move it along through voiceover and visible action. What we added to that on ‘Downward Dog’ was recollection and dream sequences.”

The show is funny and kooky as Martin takes us through life with his companion, Nan – played by Allison Tolman – and her on-again, off-again boyfriend.

It’s a great show for family viewing – mostly – and, if you love animals, you will find it irresistible.

Michael Killen and Samm Hodges co-created and co-wrote the show and are currently racing to find a new home for “Downward Dog” so that it can continue. They are also supporting a new book of Martin’s collected thoughts – Downward Dog: Very Serious Haiku from a Very Serious Dog.

  1. Thank you Thank you Thank you for this. I just found it today. This was by far the BEST show I’ve seen in a very long time. There are so many people who have fallen in love with it and are doing their best on social media to bring it back. ABC made too rash of a decision to end it. – oh and my dogs were in the fan video Michael talked about – thanks for the mention Michael. Fans are not ready to give up yet and will do what we can. I ‘ve shared this podcast so let’s see what happens.
