Chef Blythe Beck, THE NAUGHTY KITCHEN Oxygen TV reality star: Mr. Media Radio Interview

By BOB ANDELMAN

When I hear the words  “naughty” and “kitchen” used in the same sentence, I’m reminded of a scene in the Bill Murray movie Stripes where he lifts P.J. Soles up on a kitchen counter and flirts with her using an oversize but common kitchen utensil.

Somehow, I’m guessing that’s not exactly what’s in store when “The Naughty Kitchen with Chef Blythe Beck” debuts on Oxygen tonight, Tuesday, September 22 @ 10 p.m.
AUDIO EXCERPT: "Nothing's been cast; it's all real. Nothing's fake. The show is real; the people are real. Some of them might lose their jobs, but that's because they suck."
Chef Beck runs a popular Dallas restaurant, Central 214, where the staff is frisky—think Hooters—but the food is much more ambitious—think Rocco DeSpirito. The Chef is at the center of the action; it’s more of a documentary series than a contest such as “Hell’s Kitchen” or “Top Chef.”

Chef John Besh, Joyce Godbold, Greg Reggio, NEW ORLEANS WINE and FOOD EXPERIENCE: Mr. Media Audio Interview

Some of my favorite travel adventures have centered on New Orleans. The first time I went there was by car with my sister when I was in college. It was the early ‘80s and the city was host to some kind of World’s Fair-like event.

Since then I’ve returned for work and pleasure, both before and after Katrina. The food is always incredible, the people delightful and the sights and sounds truly one of a kind.

And hey, how good would the SUGARCANE GRILLED PORK CHOP from Commander’s Palace and a trio of beignets buried in powdered sugar from Café du Monde taste right now?

That’s why I jumped at the chance to invite three of the principals in the upcoming New Orleans Wine & Food Experience to come on the show. What’s the media connection? you may ask. Simple: among the many featured guests are the winner and several finalists from the fifth season of Top Chef.

Joining me today are Joyce Godbold, executive director of the festival, Greg Reggio, president of the board, and the event’s host, Chef John Besh.

Colleen, HELL'S KITCHEN w GORDON RAMSAY eliminated chef: Mr. Media Interview

"Hell’s Kitchen" is not going to be your cup of tea if hearing people yell and scream profanities at the top of their lungs while cooking inedible dishes makes you squirm.

But the show, which airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. on Fox, is addictive fun, partly for the presence of Chef Gordon Ramsey, but mostly for the clueless ineptitude of so many of the contestants. And some, of course, are trained professionals but just unprepared to perform in the heat of Ramsey’s TV kitchen.

Joining me this morning is Colleen, who runs a cooking school, but nonetheless is the fifth contestant to whom Chef Gordon Ramsay has uttered the fateful words: “Take off your jacket.”

Gail Simmons, TOP CHEF judge, FOOD AND WINE editor: Mr. Media Interview

NEW YORK - OCTOBER 27: (L-R) Image by Getty Images via DaylifeIf you watch “Top Chef” on Bravo—and I do—you know that Gail Simmons, editor-in-chief of Food & Wine magazine, has the best gig of all the judges.

Padma Lakshmi and Tom Colicchio have to hang around each day for most of the challenges while Gail helicopters in for the final tastings and judgings. She always looks composed and ready, sharp and spicy assessments ever at the ready.

This season she is even getting featured in an episode, as the competing chefs cook for her bridal shower. Should be fun.

Should Have Kept Padma Under Lock 'n' Key (New York Times)

"All the people I've been associated with are not true. I'm totally eligible, single and available."
-- Salman Rushdie, describing his social life to New York Times reporter Patricia Cohen ("Now He's Only Hunted By Cameras") after "Top Chef" beauty Padma Lakshmi left him via email. (That is so cold.) Poor bastard. At least he's got a new book out: The Enchantress of Florence. So at least he's got that going for him.
