Robert Tuchman, THE 100 SPORTING EVENTS YOU MUST SEE LIVE author: Mr. Media Radio Interview

Robert Tuchman

Today’s a good day to start an argument with your best friends or a bunch of strangers at a bar.

Today’s the day we’re going to debate the priorities of Robert Tuchman’s new book, The 100 Sporting Events You Must See Live.

Honestly, I think he got it wrong, right off the top, listing The Masters as the No. 1 event you have to see live. The Masters? C’mon, golf isn’t even a real sport! Spectacle, yes, sport, no.

See how easy it is to start an argument about this stuff?

The Oklahoma Sooners.

It’s time for the 2009 BCS national championship game and so we’re talkin’ football today on Mr. Media with Kent Walls, co-host of Fox Sports and Fox College Sports channel’s “Tailgate Tour.”

For the last five months, Kent and his delightful–yes, that’s man code for “hot”—co-host Sarah Karges have criss-crossed college campuses all across the United States in search of pigskin, tail and tall tales. Today, he’s going to tell us what he’s seen.

We’ll also get his take on this week’s big game and why the Florida Gators—Mr. Media’s alma mater—will walk away with the big title for the second time in three years.

Ohio State Buckeyes Win... Oopsy

Bookmark and Share

Someone at Amazon.com must be an Ohio State University Buckeyes fan.

With about 11 minutes left in tonight's Ohio State University/University of Florida Gators game, Amazon.com had the image to the left of a book celebrating the "Ohio State University Buckeyes 2007 BCS Champions." But with the Gators leading by 27 points, the type below the image read "Florida Gators 2007 BCS Champions."

Mr. Media points this out in good fun, of course; he's a Class of 1982 Gator.

Two bits,

four bits,

six bits,

a dollar!

All for the Gators,

Stand up and holler!!!!!

Taking a Bite Out of Reality TV

Bookmark and Share
Not sure how many Ohio State Buckeyes can claim this distinction, but Florida, the University of Florida alumni magazine, says that the Gator Nation has spawned four major reality TV stars:

Kendra Todd, winner of the third season of Donald Trump's "The Apprentice";

Jesse Palmer, fifth season heartbreaker in "The Bachelor";

Christina Christian, finalist in the first season of "American Idol";

• and Emmitt Smith, winner of the third season of "Dancing with the Stars."

Michigan, meanwhile, is asking the judges of all four shows for a recount. And they're asking the Nielsen folks to recalibrate the way they tally the votes.
