Janina Gavankar, THE L WORD, and DARRYL STEPHENS, NOAH'S ARC TV stars; ANT comedian: Mr. Media Radio Interview

Bookmark and Share
It’s 9 p.m. on the east coast, 6 p.m. on the west. Do you know where your favorite gay TV actor, straight actress who plays a pay-cable lesbian, or gay comedian is?

Well, for the next 60 minutes, they’re going to be right here with me, parading through the show one after the other and promoting gay pride comedy shows at ACME Comedy Theater’s new “ACME Saturday Night” show in Los Angeles.

Joining me, in order, will be Darryl Stephens, the star and title character of the popular Logo Channel series, “Noah’s Arc.” In the middle of what is shaping up to be a gay male sandwich will be the beautiful and straight actress Janina Gavankar, who stars as “Papi” on Showtime’s long-running “The L Word.” And then bringing up the funny at the rear will be my old Facebook friend whom I’ve never before spoken with, the star of “Last Comic Standing” and “Celebrity Fit Club,” comedian ANT.

As for me, I’ll—literally and figuratively—be your straight man tonight.

Dan Kane, Travis Oates, Rich Keith, ACME COMEDY THEATRE 20th Anniversary: Mr. Media Radio Interview

Bookmark and Share
I thought long and hard about how do introduce this special program celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Acme Comedy Theatre. I thought about how, in modern times, a lot of great comedy has come from Los Angeles. Charlie Chaplin, for instance. Ronald Reagan. Paulie Shore.

And then I thought, maybe I should leave the funny stuff up to the comics from Acme. So I’m going to shut up and explain the format of this show.

Joining us first will be Dan Kane, the owner of the theatre. He’ll then be joined by the theatre’s founder and director, Travis Oates, who will be followed in succession by performers Julie Wittner, Kevin Small, Jen Parker, Rich Keith and Claudia Dolph.

Before I bring Dan on, let me tell you that the Acme Comedy Theatre is located at 135 North La Brea Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90036. For tickets: acmecomedy.com.

Elaine Hendrix is an actress you’ve seen in the company of a lot of household names: Lindsay Lohan in The Parent Trap; Amber Tamblyn in “Joan of Arcadia”; Will Ferrell in Superstar; and Bam Bam and Celeste with Margaret Cho.

Scott Krinsky, CHUCK NBC-TV co-star: Mr. Media Audio Interview

Bookmark and Share
You couldn’t fill a half-hour sitcom with every moment of screen time Scott Krinsky’s character “Jeff Barnes” has earned in nearly two seasons of NBC’s “Chuck.”

But you know what? That’s okay. Because every time Jeff is in the camera frame—almost always with his partner Lester, played by Vik Sahay—you have to watch him. And listen.

And frankly, you probably have to listen again. Because what comes out of his mouth is always a head scratcher.

Scott Krinsky is not Jeff, not by a long shot. This week, in fact, he’ll be the guest host at the Acme Comedy Theatre in Los Angeles. You’ll be able to see him perform live on Saturday, April 4 at 8 p.m.

Regular listeners to Mr. Media know how much I love watching “Chuck.” It’s one of the smartest, funniest and sexiest shows on TV and I hope it’s around for a long time to come. Josh Gomez and Vik Sahay have already been my guests; now I’m delighted to have Scott Krinsky join us.

Lea Thompson, CAROLINE IN THE CITY, BACK TO THE FUTURE actress: Mr. Media Audio Interview

Bookmark and Share

Caroline in the CityImage via Wikipedia

Actress Lea Thompson, perhaps best-known for starring in the NBC sitcom “Caroline in the City” and the Back to the Future movies with Michael J. Fox, is swallowing her pride and appearing on Mr. Media Interviews!

Here is the Evelyn Wood version of Thompson’s career, courtesy of IMDB.com: Her first role was in the movie Jaws 3-D (1983) as a water ski bunny, although she couldn’t swim or ski—and still can’t. Her next role was in All the Right Moves (1983) in which she worked opposite Tom Cruise.

Thompson’s big break came from the first Back to the Future (1985). It was the biggest hit of 1985, and Thompson was suddenly a wanted actress. Director Howard Deutch offered her a part in his next movie, Some Kind of Wonderful, but she initially refused it. Instead she made Back to the Future II (1989), but made Deutch a happy man by marrying him—and starring in Back to the Future III (1990).

From 1995-99, Thompson starred in the NBC-TV sitcom, “Caroline in the City,” the saga of a popular cartoonist with wacky friends.

She most recently starred in the “Jane Doe” mystery series on the Hallmark Channel and is in pre-production on three new movies for 2009: Prettyface, Rock Slyde and Splinterheads.

Tatyana Ali, FRESH PRINCE OF BEL-AIR actress: Mr. Media Audio Interview

Bookmark and Share

Tatyana AliTatyana Ali (via last.fm)

There are some guests on this show that I really want to interview. And then there are those with whom I look forward to conversation but what I’d really like to do is spend 30 minutes just soaking in how good they look.

Take a peek at a picture of Tatyana Ali and see if you know what I’m thinking right now!

But because it’s likely my wife of 20 years is listening in the next room, let’s get this interview in gear.

Tatyana Ali is best known for her role as Ashley Banks on “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” from 1990-96 in which she played Will Smith younger cousin. She has since moved on from child star to adult actress, appearing with Morgan Freeman and Ashley Judd in Kiss the Girls; D.L. Hughley and Morris Chestnut in The Brothers; as well as performing in Glory Road and Nora’s Hair Salon II.

She also has a career as a singer going back to her 1998 debut album, Kiss the Sky. She opened on tour for both the Backstreet Boys and N Sync.

More recently, Tatyana has recorded a new album, The Light, for release this year and she will appear in a new movie, Mother and Child, starring Samuel L. Jackson and Naomi Watts.

All that, and she’s also guest hosting at Acme Comedy Theatre in Los Angeles this Saturday night, March 21. Stick around and I’ll tell you how to order tickets.

But enough of me talking about Tatyana—time to hear from her.
