David Sterritt: The B LIST co-editor, NATIONAL SOCIETY OF FILM CRITICS chairman: Mr. Media Interview

Bookmark and Share
Just a few weeks ago I was telling my wife about the scariest movie I ever saw: Tales From the Crypt. This 1972 gore fest came replete with a psycho Santa and a beating heart – left in a crumpled up letter, as I recall.

I was 12 when I saw it at the State Theater in New Brunswick , NJ, with my friend, Robert Douglas.

That movie scared the living shit out of me. First and only time I ever moved to the back of the theatre and felt like I might vomit. Gave me nightmares not for days, but years.

I mention it now because it is one of the “gems” featured in a new book, The B List, edited by David Sterritt and John Anderson.

What is the mark of a great ‘B’ move? Is it scaring the crap out of 12-year-old boys? That’s one of the questions I’ll ask my guest, David Sterritt, chairman of the National Society of Film Critics and a film professor at Columbia University.
